Zhao is far more than just a professional DJ – he is a self-taught musicologist who delves into the roots of contemporary dance music to demonstrate the influences of African rhythm and melody on the music we listen to. And he can also get a room full of ravers bouncing to his beats…

zhao liveHis wide-ranging sets cover house, ambient, techno, juke, drum & bass, dub, reggae, Afrobeats, 70s funk, African punk, latino electronica and just about every genre with or without a name.

Dance with your mind and your feet; infuse your brain cells with a mind-blowing influx of African diasporic mutations; forget the limited categories of contemporary dance music but always remember where we came from (Africa!); expect the unexpected; expect: DJ ZHAO.
